Cornersmith's Secret Sauce

Among other gourmet handmade treats, our limited edition #AussieArtisanWeek hamper includes Cornersmith's famous pumpkin sesame relish. ”The secret is roasting the pumpkin and toasting the sesame seeds, explains Cornersmith’s Alex Elliott-Howery. “This intensifies and deepens the flavour. It’s rich and warming, and delicious on toasties, with eggs or a roast chook.”

Cornersmith’s Alex Elliott-Howery and James Grant have been pickling and preserving in Marrickville since 2012. Thanks to killer coffee, their famous lunch menu, a trading system allowing customers to exchange their homegrown fruit and veg for a jar of pickles and coffee, Cornersmith developed a cult following almost as soon as it opened.

“COVID has had a huge impact on all small businesses, especially in the hospitality industry,” says Alex. “Cornersmith is lucky to have such a wonderful team  working with us and to have so much support from our local community. We wouldn't have gotten through this tough time without these people.”

Our Aussie Artisan Week hampers are the work of small-scale makers from around the country. Given the artisanal nature of the inclusions, the number of hampers available will be capped. For now there are still a few available here.
