“Return to the beginning” is the mantra for Kawakubo’s Fall Winter 2023 collection. “I wanted to use fabrics that existed without thinking about making proper patterns, just basic patterns, free”, said Rei via translation from Adrian Joffe. For CDG CDG, her signature aesthetic is distilled to its original essence – bold shapes with unexpected detailing in primary colours. As difficult to find as the clandestine designer herself, the ‘Comme Des Garcons Comme Des Garcons’ line is a distillation of the forward-looking CDG spirit, and is fiercely protected by Kawukubo. A meeting of purism and practicality in a crisp palette of black, navy and white, CDGCDG is only available at a handful of outposts around the world.
