Handmade in Japan
Incorporating notes of linden flowers, sandalwood, almond blossom and vanilla, this nutty incense is inspired by the gardens around Grand Chalet in the Swiss Alps, where Astier de Villatte’s muse, the nostalgia-obsessed artist Barthus, spent much of his working life. This concoction is the work of acclaimed Grasse-born perfumer Francoise Caron, who has created fragrances for Christian Lacroix, Helmut Lang, and whose most famous and enduring oeuvre is, L’Eau d’Orange Verte for Hermes. Astier de Villatte fragrances are some of the most sought-after fragrances in the world – but they’re also the hardest to find.
Astier de Villatte
With a penchant for archaeology and nostalgia, and an unspoken mantra of ‘handmade in Paris’, you’d be forgiven for assuming that French lifestyle brand Astier de Villatte is as old as its collaborators. Most famous for the iconic, chalky white-glazed black terracotta ceramic stashed in delicious towers in their tiny boutique on Rue Saint-Honoré, Astier de Villatte now produce borosilicate glassware, titanium cutlery, gilt-edged notebooks and some of the best eau de colognes in the world.
