Gualtieri’s tribute to the green fairy is equal parts stickily sweet and bitter, with notes of fresh herbs, vetiver and benzoin. “The result of a quest to stimulate irresponsible behaviour”, says the maker, who claims that the inclusion of thujone extracted from wormwood should make the wearer chuckle, though the chemical has been known to cause involuntary convulsions. Not for the faint of heart.
Italian for ‘The Mad Nose’, Nasomatto is the project of seasoned perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri. Having cut his teeth creating designer perfumes for houses such as Fendi, Versace and Helmut Lang, Gualtieri dissented in order to realise the heretical scents of his fervent imagination. The formula of the fragrances in the Nasomatto line are kept secret but are believed to be inspired by ancient Middle Eastern perfumery. Each scent is designed as a conceptual offering, intended to create a unique feeling in the wearer. Gualtieri describes the motto of the line as “No Limits” - what happens if you take a sensation and distil it to its most absolute essence?
