Slosh them with wine. Fill them with negroni. Scoop them full of ice and douse them with sparkling water. Malfatti’s slightly off-kilter everything-glasses are mouth blown in New York from laboratory strength borosilicate glass, yet are so delicate they make even sommeliers reel. Purposely misshapen over the flame in the spirit of wabi sabi, these glasses are noticeably lighter than their standard counterparts, yet durable enough to handle a late night with the single malt. Wedding presents don’t get more elegant than a one-off pair of handmade stemless glasses. It’s almost worth getting married.
Malfatti
New York-based master glassblowers Daniel Spitzer and Jill Reynolds are award-wining artists who primarily work in the realm of large scale installations, sculpture, and chandeliers. Between them, they’ve worked on the lobby at the Bellagio, been featured in the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Seattle Art Museum and the Microsoft Corporation’s collections, and have won fellowships and residencies everywhere from Pittsburgh Glass Center to Harvard. Malfatti, which translates as misshapen, is their side project.
