It’s true that this smoky, slightly floral fragrance is like nothing your nose nor imagination could ever possibly dream up. That’s because Haeckels fragrances are made from ingredients never before used in perfumery – in this case, foraged from the abandoned 19th century amusement park in Margate on the 9th of February 2014, a cloudy day. All charred leather and burnt wood with a hint of juicy garden rose, this fragrance is inspired by the ornamental rose gardens where Dreamland’s famous roller coaster once stood before going up in flames in a dramatic act of arson. Just as impressive is the candle’s specially developed compostable mycelium packaging which is made primarily from the root system of mushrooms that are custom-grown around a moul and combined with sawdust, flax and hemp husks to create a completely natural and wonderfully textural lightweight treasure box. The entire piece comes wrapped in seed paper, which means planting your rubbish in the garden will result in a rush of wildflowers. We kid you not.
This is the first time Haeckels candles have been available in Australia.
This all-natural, sustainability-obsessed skincare experiment from Margate in the UK has won just about every design award you might care about. Centred around seaweed from the frigid Kent coast harvested under one of only two licences in England, the Haeckels collection is the work of a very small team, is quality tested by scientists in Oxford, and is, we think, the best natural skincare in the world. Only available in Australia at Sorry Thanks I Love You.
