Stutterheim’s raincoats encapsulate everything the Swedes are famous for: minimalism, melancholy and an affinity for nature’s extremes. Based on Alexander Stutterheim’s grandfather’s original fishing jacket, this limited edition Stockholm coat is made from heavy, rubberised cotton. It has been severely tested both at sea and in unforgiving urban downpours and is the raincoat of choice of Kanye, Jay-Z, and a generation of pragmatic Swedes.
It all started when Alexander Stutterheim went out to the Swedish archipelago to clear out his grandfather’s old hut. The same week, he had found himself caught in a typical Stockholm downpour, dressed in Goretex in the middle of the city and looking like a ‘lost golfer’. Inspired by his grandfather’s old fishing raincoat, he sewed the first 200 jackets in his kitchen and gave 100 of them away to his friends. Eight years on, his jackets have become a global symbol of Swedish sensibility.
