Sulvam Unisex Seersucker Overcoat

Made in Japan

Any proper tailor will tell you that lightweight, puckered seersucker is the ideal material for an autumnal overcoat – and they’ll also tell you that it’s rare to see sartorial work of this calibre in Australia. Dropping just below the knee, every tiny detail of this overcoat has been agonised over -  from the feel of the silky lining on the skin, to the raw, frayed edges around the hem.  A protégé of Yohji Yamamoto, the master of Japanese tailoring, Teppei Fujita’s work plays on his background as a pattern-maker, celebrating visible seams, untrimmed cotton and raw finishes.

When Teppei Fujita launched his label Sulvam at Paris Fashion Week in 2014, there was collective intake of breath from the industry. Luckily, as Vogue put it, his collection “justifies the hype.” This marks his Australian debut.
