Tokyo's Best Sneaker Stores

Tokyo's Best Sneaker Stores

Tokyo is, arguably, the sneaker capital of the world. We spent a week there not long ago, and while the bevy of three-storey specialist stores dedicated to these humble kicks was awe-inspiring, it was the stores that cross-pollinated their sneakers with local honeys, foam banana pits and, in one case, complete silence that really made us purr. Here’s where we’d have you go.

Cune

The entire first floor of this store is taken up by a giant tree growing from just in front of the counter. Say no more.

Bape Kids

For tiny sneaker heads, this is the place: a miniature version of beloved Japanese streetwear label Bape. Best part: enormous foama banana-filled pit in the middle of the store.

Tomorrowland

Converse collaboration and exceptional collection of Golden Goose sneakers aside, Tomorrowland is one of the most impressive clothing stores in the city. Cleverly presented and impeccably curated, this is like wandering through the mind of a world class fashion designer’s imaginary friend.

1LDK

In Japanese real estate parlance, 1LDK = one room apartment with a living, dining and kitchen area. In Tokyo fashionista parlance, it means menswear, tools, handmade sneakers and books. This tiny fashion/lifestyle store is only a short stroll from cherry blossom-lined Meguro river and is just as beautiful.

Visvim

Most of the clothes here are kept in glass-fronted rosewood antiques. Sneakers rub shoulders with desert boots, backpacks and cracked leather armchairs. If you get sick of perusing the shirts and lazing on the chesterfields, order a coffee to go and drink it on the balcony.
