Easter 2016: Colleggtion

In the spirit of ‘giving different’ this Easter, we’re partnering with St Vincent De Paul Society and have commissioned two one-of-a-kind chocolate creations to celebrate the season.

Famous for their nightly dinner service at Martin Place, Vinnies’ Night Patrol service delivers free meals, blankets, hot beverages and companionship to anyone who needs it, via two roaming vans in the inner city. 

We see firsthand the work that these guys do, and this March we’ll be collecting both Easter egg and cash donations via a ‘colleggtion’ bowl in our Martin Place store for a special Night Patrol delivery on Easter Sunday.

The Night Patrol have also requested a donation of more specific sundries which we’ll be providing on an ongoing basis, and some of our team have already registered to volunteer for the service.

 

 

We’ll also be bringing in the Easter long weekend with a series of in-store tastings in our Martin Place store every day in the two weeks preceding Good Friday.

This year, we’re working with renowned Sydney chocolatiers Kakawa for the first time and have commissioned a limited edition ‘Babushka Egg’ to celebrate the season.  Created by Jin Sun Kim, this ‘egg -within-an-egg-within-an-egg’ is comprised of a fine milk chocolate egg filled with hand painted pastel ‘quail’ chocolate eggs, encased in a thick outer shell made of hand tempered single origin dark chocolate. 

Painstakingly constructed by hand, each egg takes a few days to make. 

“The most difficult part about this is time,” explains Jin Sun.

We’re expecting the first one to be released this week.

Boxes of Belgian speckled sugar shell eggs from Winnow Chocolates are already available, and our now-signature spiced Hot Cross Bun Brittle, studded with candied orange and moist sultanas and decorated with edible gold leaf by Winnow Chocolates, will also be available this week. 

For those looking to celebrate Easter sans chocolate, a curated selection of traditional handpainted ‘Bordfolk’ wooden egg cups, rejuvenated by Danish designer Lucie Kaas with the original artist’s blessing, will also be released in early March, as well as new collections from Dinosaur Designs and Rains.

A full in-store events schedule sees a dark chocolate and whisky pairing on Good Friday eve, and, for those who like their chocolate in guilt-free, liquid form, a special tasting session with the makers of organic cacao tea brand The Husk Mill

These events will complement the ongoing free yoga classes held in the store every Monday night, in association with non-profit surf community One Wave Is All It Takes.
