1803 Ham Sword

Nose to tail

En Garde

True love is a giant ham, and a sharp-as-hell antler sword with which to slice it. Whether it’s shaving prosciutto or filleting a ten pound rainbow trout, the craftsmanship in this handsome culinary weapon is evident. It’s in the surprising flexibility of the blade, the warmth of its brass finish, and the perfect roughness and balanced weight of its handle. Forged by the expert cutlers at Tharwa Vallery Forgery just south of Canberra, this sword’s carbon steel blade is so sharp it makes ham bones wince. The handle is made from naturally shed red deer antler, its unique shape and colouring decided by the season’s rainfall on the Hansen’s farm on the slopes of Mt Canabolas, and the fettle of the individual animal. These tools are months in the making and come in a sleek, carefully sized deer leather wrap. We’re lucky to even have one. You’d be even luckier.
