Veja x Rick Owens Black Butter V Knit Shoes

The world’s most sustainable sneaker brand, Veja, has collaborated with brutalist fashion designer Rick Owens to create a minimalist, technical running shoe made from banana oil, rice husk and recycled plastic bottles. Described as groundbreaking, revolutionary and experimental, Rick Owens approached Veja more than two years ago to bring the project to life.  “I have absolutely no authority to promote sustainability, but I do endorse the idea of thoughtful living and planning for the future with kindness in mind,” says Owens. “We all gotta start somewhere.”

After working on sustainable development projects around the world for a year, French best friends François-Ghislain Morillon and Sebastian Kopp set out to achieve the impossible: a transparent, ethically produced fashion brand that incites nods of approval from hardline vegans, slow fashion crusaders, and good-looking celebrities. Luckily, they’ve succeeded.
