Made from Barossa Valley grapes growing in the dark red clay for which the region is famous, this hot, ripe shiraz from South Australian vineyard The Standish has been raved about by any critic lucky enough to stumble across it.  Named after the first recorded owner of a Syrah vineyard in the Rhone who donated the vineyard to the local church once her husband died (on the condition that she receive a barrel of wine from each vintage, of course), this is one helluva shiraz.  In Sebastian Crowther's words: "Dan Standish is a sixth generation Barossan, so knows his way around. This wine is not over ripe as many examples of the region are, but rather has before concentration and intensity while retaining elegance."
